As holiday deliveries pile up, Alabama has decided the answer to stolen packages is not less inequality or actual economic support, but a new law that turns repeated package theft into a felony, carrying up to 10 years in prison. Nothing says "community safety" like throwing people in cages for grabbing a box when they couldn't otherwise feed their kids, or expecting them to pay attention to penalties when they can barely afford to exist. — Read the rest

Typical leftist goon sentiment.

Excusing THEFT because of made up poverty concerns.

Blaming the VICTIM of crime for being pissed about being a VICTIM of crime because of some altruistic retardation is just that, retarded.

Yeah, maybe a "federal" wrap is like using a 50 caliber to shoot Styrofoam cups; way overboard, but fucking CRIME needs PUNISHMENT, not leftist slobbering about inequality and evil billionaires stealing bread from babies.

Want people to be harsh and caustic to poor people? Then be an apologist that states its OK for "poors to steal" because of the "inequity". That is a sure way to LOSE support for giving resources to social safety nets.

Stealing is stealing, regardless of circumstances. Liberal guilt always finds a way to justify bad behavior.

If I have something and you need it, I'll be happy to give it to you. If you decide to make that choice yourself, I think you'll soon regret your decision.

Stealing is stealing. Crimes deserve punishment. Situation normal so far. But, doubling down on punishments because a particular crime seems to have gotten out of control seems silly if that's the totality of the fix though. It's like finding a toilet being clogged suddenly with poop and thinking the fix lies with adjusting the toilet and not figuring out why there's so much more poop suddenly.

SOME humans do not deserve to roam free, SOME humans need to be warehoused in an institution because of their actions.

You can not have a free society without boundaries, checkpoints and individual rights. Actions need to be taken so that repeat offenders get a much heavier burden to pay.

I only support applying the Federal rap because that's how you remove the thieving scumbags for long years of time. The US used to do that, it was called the "three strikes" rules.

Leftist goons did not like it, (leftist goons don't like non-whites in jail for some fucking reason) plus it make some high profile mistakes with its clumsily written rule set that removed judge's ability to alter the sentencing guide lines.

Yeah, there's no way I'm defending the OG post in this thread. We have our dumbasses, you have yours. I don't claim this one. I don't know shit about fuck about Alabama's needs. For all I know Newsboy is an AI bot that puts out news articles with a political bias.

My point still stands though. If you just adjust the penalty but you ain't doing anything else to stop it, you become a hammer without a nail. like I'm a drunk idiot and even I can come up with ways to make porch stealing less popular without increasing sentencing to the federal level. Keep in mind, these crimes already have increasing sentences for repeated offences at the state level. We don't need to give the feds more authority here. A thousand dollars spent by the state and you could paint the town in paper signs reminding people of the dangers and damages of what that crime carries. Holding local news press conferences are free. Making it a federal case means if convicted they couldn't vote anymore and they would be unable to get off early for good behavior. There's other steps to take but we don't take them. We just grab a bigger hammer and it's fucking stupid.

Let's say the increased federal penalties aren't enough and the people continue to suffer from lost items? Death penalty? Like, there's already in place an increased penalty for multiple thefts. Apparently it's not a super effective deterrent. Maybe the hammer isn't always the best tool, ya know? It's all I'm saying.

The problem isn't that I don't hate criminals enough. You get that, at least, right?
Yeah, I don't really get that from you. You seem like the kind of guy that wishes he has three hands so he can give away other people's money 1/3rd faster than normal.

Crimes that victimize people, either physically or financially are insidious and need to be taken seriously and harshly.
